What Is the Digital Nomad Visa?
The Digital Nomad Visa is part of Spain's Startup Law (Ley de Startups) designed to attract international talent.
It allows non-EU nationals to live in Spain while working remotely for foreign companies or running online businesses.
- Valid for: 1 year (visa), extendable to 3 years (residency card)
- Leads to permanent residency after 5 years of continuous legal stay
Who Can Apply?
You are eligible if you:
Are a non-EU/EEA national
Work remotely for a company or clients outside Spain
Earn at least 200% of Spain's minimum wage (~€2,600/month)
Have at least 3 months of work history with your employer or clients
Hold a university degree or have 3+ years of relevant experience
Have clean criminal records
Hold private health insurance valid in Spain
Required Documents
To apply, you’ll need:
Valid passport
Proof of remote employment or freelance contracts
Proof of income (bank statements, invoices, tax returns)
Degree certificate or experience proof
Criminal background check (apostilled)
Spanish address or intent to settle
Private health insurance
Application forms (EX-01 or EX-07 depending on application route)
Visa & Residency Duration
Visa: 1 year (issued abroad)
Residency Permit: 3 years (can be extended to 2 more years)
Eligible for Permanent Residency after 5 years
Can lead to Citizenship after 10 years (with some exceptions)
