1. Residents Inside Spain
If you are currently living in Spain and have already obtained your first DNV (residency permit), the renewal pattern is:
First renewal: Valid for 2 years
Second renewal: Valid for 2 years
Third renewal: You become eligible for Permanent Residency (after completing 5 years total)
2. Residents Outside Spain
If you are living outside Spain and hold a Spanish residence permit:
The renewal will be:
First renewal: 1 year
Second renewal: 2 years
Third renewal: 2 years
** Permanent Residency is granted only after 5 years of legal residency, regardless of your location, but staying in Spain strengthens your application.
